Birth Doula

We understand that the best doula support is when the doula is present for the entirety of the labor and delivery process, providing physical, emotional, and informational support to the birthing person and their partner. Using a Birth Doula decreases your chances of cesarean, has been known to shorten labor and can decrease your need for medication.

Your Nurturing Doula will support you in the following ways:

  • On-call support starting 37 weeks until your baby is born
  • Guidance & emotional support for you/your partner before and during labor & birth
  • Photos of birth and newborn if desired
  • Help you write a birth wish list according to your preferences, guided by our expertise
  • Share physical comfort measures that she or your partner can provide during labor and birth such as light touch massage, breathing patterns and position changes
  • Help you advocate for yourself during birth
  • Understands birth process; helps you understand how labor is progressing
  • Gently helps initiate breastfeeding within an hour after birth

Frequently Asked Questions About Birth Doula Support

A birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support throughout labor and delivery. Your doula helps you understand how labor is progressing, shares comfort measures like breathing techniques and position changes, helps you advocate for your preferences, and gently assists with breastfeeding initiation after birth. Unlike medical staff who manage clinical care, your doula focuses entirely on your comfort, confidence, and experience.
We recommend booking your birth doula by the second trimester, as our calendar fills quickly. However, it’s never too late to inquire — reach out and we’ll do our best to match you with a doula who is available for your due date. Birth support begins with on-call availability starting at 37 weeks until your baby arrives.
Every Nurturing Hands family is assigned both a primary doula and a backup doula. You meet both during pregnancy so you’re comfortable with each. If your primary doula becomes unavailable when you go into labor, your backup doula steps in seamlessly — giving you complete peace of mind that support will always be there.
All our doulas are certified professionals with clear background checks and current CPR certification. Our founder, Carla Rocha, brings over 15 years of experience and holds six specialized certifications spanning birth support, postpartum care, newborn care, lactation education, childbirth education, and gentle pediatric sleep consulting. Every doula on our team meets the same rigorous standards.
After your free discovery call, we learn about your preferences, birth goals, and personality to match you with a doula who is the right fit. We consider experience, approach, and availability for your due date. You’ll meet your primary doula and your backup doula before birth so everyone is aligned and comfortable with your plan.
